AI for Sustainability Hackathon 2026

Organized by

Canadian University Dubai, UAE

  • Round I (Idea/PPT Submission): 7 Feb 2026

  • Round II (Online Presentation): 14-16 Feb 2026

Technology

AI for Sustainability Hackathon 2026 unites creators, developers, and changemakers to build a greener, smarter future. The event unfolds in two dynamic phases: first, participants pitch bold ideas that tackle environmental and social challenges; then, they transform those ideas into working prototypes that drive measurable sustainability impact. With expert mentorship, cutting-edge tools, and a spirit of collaboration, teams will design solutions that blend innovation with purpose, advancing sustainability, creativity, and real-world change.

Problem Statements

Partners & Sponsors

  1. AI for Energy Optimization in Smart Cities: Develop an AI system that analyzes city-level energy usage (lighting, traffic, HVAC, etc.) and predicts opportunities to reduce consumption or shift loads to renewable sources.

  2. Predictive Maintenance for Renewable Infrastructure: Create a model that predicts failures or efficiency drops in solar panels, wind turbines, or batteries using sensor data and weather patterns.

  3. Climate-Resilient Agriculture: Design an AI-driven advisory platform for farmers that recommends crop patterns, irrigation schedules, and pest control strategies based on soil, climate, and satellite data.

  4. AI-Powered Waste Sorting & Recycling: Build a computer vision or multimodal AI model that classifies and routes waste streams in real time, such as plastic, paper, metal, organic.

  5. Carbon Footprint Tracker for Businesses: Develop an AI tool that automatically estimates and reports a company’s carbon footprint using financial transactions, logistics, and energy data.

  6. Forest Fire Detection & Prevention: Use satellite imagery and environmental sensors to detect early signs of forest fires and predict high-risk zones.

  7. AI for Water Quality & Leak Detection: Design an AI model that uses sensor or image data to detect water contamination or pipeline leaks before they cause large-scale losses.

  8. Sustainable Mobility Planner: Create an AI assistant that suggests the most eco-friendly travel routes and modes of transport e.g., shared rides, EVs, public transit based on real-time data.

  9. Biodiversity Monitoring & Conservation: Develop a machine learning solution that identifies endangered species or habitat loss from audio, drone, or satellite data.

  10. Open Innovation: Any other relevant solution towards sustainability.
